Imagine if Stefan, in his attempt to save his brother from the danger he found himself in, loses his memories.
Loses everything.
Forgets everything. Everything he went through, everything he achieved, how he loved and how he was loved. Imagine if he forgets Lexi, and all of his deeds, if he loses all the guilt and regret. Imagine if he forgets he ever became friends with Caroline. Imagine if he forgets Elena, and how much he loved her, and how she loved him. Imagine if she becomes just a replica of Katherine to him, if he loses every kiss, every hug, every feelings when their fingers would intertwine, imagine if he loses all the love he has for her. Imagine if he forgets everything that went down between him and Damon and if the last memory he has of them is playing football in front of their house, imagine the confusion on his face when he notices his brother looking at him with so much jealousy and contempt every time Elena comes close to him.
Imagine if we get that innocent boy from 1864 back, getting another chance, clean slate. Imagine him dealing with the emptiness inside of him, confusion while he’s trying to reach for all the memories he once lived and feelings he felt. Imagine all of the possibilities.
Now imagine Elena trying to help him remember. Trying to bring the man she once loved back, by telling him stories and showing him his diaries. Imagine her watching him crack and cry like he used to watch her back in the days, unable to do anything but hold her in his arms, stroking her hair, telling her everything will be okay. Imagine if they reverse the roles and she becomes the strong one, taking care of him, because he needs it, because now it’s his time to be afraid. Imagine her own struggles, should she even help him remember? She would have a power to protect him from everything, himself and all the pain he caused the others, herself and all the pain she had caused him. Imagine, if somewhere along the line, she falls in love with the version of him she never met because he buried that boy so deep inside he didn’t even know how to bring him out, and if he falls in love with her all over again. If he falls in love with the girl with whom he was always in love with, even when he didn’t know her.
Just imagine.
